Truly wireless (TWS) earbuds are one of the most popular things people buy on Amazon India, and the under ₹1,500 range is packed with options. The trouble is that almost every listing says the same things: "40H playtime", "ENC", "low latency", "deep bass". When everything sounds the same, it is hard to know what to pick.

This guide explains which specs really make a difference at this budget, which ones are mostly marketing, and how to choose a pair that suits the way you use earbuds.

1. Start with how you will use them

Before comparing specs, be honest about your main use:

  • Calls and office meetings: microphone quality matters most.
  • Music on the commute: comfort, fit and battery matter most.
  • Mobile gaming: low latency (less delay between video and sound) matters most.
  • Gym and running: a secure fit and water resistance matter most.

Most budget earbuds try to do everything, but each one is usually a bit better at one or two of these. Knowing your priority makes the choice much easier.

2. Calling: count the mics and look for ENC

For calls, look for 4 mics with ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) in the listing. ENC tries to reduce background noise like traffic or fans so the other person hears your voice more clearly. Two-mic earbuds can work fine in a quiet room but often struggle outdoors.

Keep in mind that ENC is not the same as ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). ENC helps the person you are talking to. ANC reduces the noise you hear. True ANC is less common under ₹1,500, so if a listing mentions it, read the details carefully. You can browse TWS earbuds with ANC on Amazon to compare what is available.

3. Battery life: understand the big number

When a listing says "40H playtime", that is almost always the total including the charging case. The earbuds themselves usually last a lot less on a single charge. Check the listing for the per-earbud figure. If you take long calls or long trips, that is the number that counts.

Also look for fast charging. Many listings mention something like "10 minutes of charge for a couple of hours of playback", which is handy when you forget to charge overnight. A Type-C charging port is also worth having so you can share your phone charger.

4. Bluetooth version and latency

Newer versions such as Bluetooth 5.3 or 5.4 usually give a more stable connection and slightly better battery efficiency than older ones like 5.0. It is not a huge difference in daily use, but it is a nice plus when two options are otherwise similar.

If you play games or watch a lot of videos, look for a low latency or "gaming mode". It reduces the delay between what you see on screen and what you hear. Budget earbuds still won't match wired earphones here, but a gaming mode helps noticeably for casual play.

5. Fit, comfort and water resistance

Even great specs don't help if the earbuds keep falling out. Check that the box includes extra ear tips in different sizes, and try them all to find your best seal. A good seal also improves bass.

For workouts or rainy-day commutes, look for IPX4 or IPX5. These ratings mean protection against sweat and splashes, not swimming. Don't wash or submerge them.

6. Driver size, app support and warranty

Bigger drivers (like 13mm) are often linked with stronger bass, but driver size alone doesn't decide sound quality. Treat it as a hint, not a promise.

Some brands offer a companion app for EQ settings and firmware updates. It's a nice extra, not a must-have.

Warranty matters a lot here, because budget earbuds can develop issues like one bud not connecting or the case not charging. Check the warranty period on the listing and prefer brands with a clear service process in India. For more tips on judging discounts, read our guide on how to spot a fake discount on Amazon.

FAQ

Are TWS earbuds under ₹1,500 good for calls?
Many are fine for everyday calls, especially models with 4 mics and ENC. In very noisy places, the other person may still hear some background sound.

Is "40H playtime" the battery of the earbuds?
Usually not. It is normally the total including the charging case. Check the listing for the per-earbud playback time.

Do I need ANC at this budget?
Not necessarily. A good ear-tip seal already blocks a lot of noise. If you travel often in noisy buses or trains, ANC is worth looking for.
